Kamiah

Located along the banks of the Clearwater River, Kamiah is well-rounded with recreational opportunities and the comfort of small-town life in a historic region.

Base your fishing trip out of Kamiah for steelhead, trout and other game fish.If hunting is your desire, you’ll have ready access to nearby wilderness with a variety of game to choose from: elk, deer, bear, mountain lion, pheasant and grouse.

Wildlife viewing is a regional draw along U.S. Highway 12 which offers numerous pullouts and view points for the many critters that inhabit this wilderness country, fed by the Clearwater and Lochsa Rivers.

Kamiah greets visitors with western Victorian-style charm, in downtown and residential architecture. Modern amenities include lodging, groceries and fuel, shopping and a tribal casino. Residents enjoy the benefits of a socially active town through numerous civic groups, rodeo and other western sport events, festivals including the annual free Labor Day BBQ, and sports facilities. Snowmobile and ATV access is literally out your front door and skiing/snowboarding activities are a short drive away to regional ski hills.

The valley is rich in heritage and legends. It was here, among the ancestors of the present day Nez Perce, that the Appaloosa horse was first bred. It was also the place where Meriwether Lewis and Captain William Clark with their Corps of Discovery spent the third longest period on their return trip east in 1806.
